Senior HVDC Project Engineer – North East USA (Salary $Excellent + Bonus + Progression)

Role Overview:
Provide technical leadership in HVDC, including configurations (VSC, Monopole, Bipole), engineering, procurement, and commissioning. Conduct research, oversee detailed project documentation, lead technical discussions, ensure regulatory compliance, manage stakeholders, and mentor junior engineers. Frequent travel for site assessments required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expert in HVDC configurations (VSC, Symmetrical, Monopole, Bipole) and STATCOM technologies.
- Oversee engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, including hardware-in-the-loop, factory acceptance, and on-site testing.
- Drive advanced research on HVDC equipment and control methods, exploring innovative solutions.
- Serve as HVDC Subject Matter Expert in technical discussions and workshops.
- Ensure design aligns with industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, PJM, IEC, CIGRE) and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff in HVDC/FACTS and related engineering fields.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in HVDC and FACTs project delivery; Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering preferred; Professional Engineering licensure advantageous.
- Proficient in power systems tools (e.g., electromagnetic transient software, Mathcad, MATLAB, Aspen/CAPE, PSS®E/PSLF); experience from study phase through to engineering and commissioning of HVDC projects.
- Extensive knowledge of HVDC converter technologies (VSC, LCC), FACTS (STATCOM, SVC, Sync Condenser), and IBR integration.
- Skilled in managing projects from power system studies to the design and execution of transmission systems (69kV+).
- Strong oral and written skills for explaining complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
