The team works at the cutting edge of energy law, supporting clients through the complex regulatory landscape of Japan’s energy transition.
The Role:
As a Legal professional you will support clients on various renewable energy projects. You will handle a wide range of corporate and commercial legal matters, including advising on regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), drafting and negotiating contracts, and managing complex transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and negotiate corporate agreements, turbine supply agreements, EPC contracts, joint ventures, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and financing documents.
- Lead and support M&A transactions, including conducting due diligence, structuring deals, and negotiating transaction documents related to renewable energy assets.
- Advise on and negotiate project finance agreements, including liaising with financial institutions to secure funding for renewable energy developments.
- Implement compliance frameworks and ensure legal risks are managed effectively.
- Support corporate governance activities, including board meetings and company secretarial matters.
The Person:
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5 years of legal experience, preferably in corporate law, energy law, M&A, or project finance.
- Strong understanding of Japan's renewable energy regulatory framework.
- Fluent in English and Japanese, with excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills.
- Proven experience in managing complex transactions, including turbine supply agreements, EPC contracts, project finance, and M&A in the energy sector.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a business-oriented approach to legal issues.
